Future FilmMakers
It's Our Turn to Make It Happen
My beginning
Every filmmaker out there has a unique story, so here is mine.
My name is Hannah Thomas & growing up NO ONE encouraged me to go to film school. FilmMaking has always been a part of my life since I was kid, but pursuing that full time seemed like the most impossible of dreams. Film school was just NEVER the option. I instead went to a University to get a math degree from the same college both my parents attended.
It was in my sophomore year of college that I found this famous YouTube channel called Film Riot and I learned for the first time about the independent realm of filmmaking. Seeing what Ryan Connelly was doing on the internet inspired me to do the exact same thing, start a YouTube channel and make my films with whatever resources I had. It was so much harder than I initially thought. YouTube completely broke me as I was very embarrassed about how my small YouTube channel rarely got views and how terrible my videos were.

But, something amazing happened. Through making videos I discovered who I was. I realized that there was something really BIG missing in YouTube film industry. There were these huge film creators making really epic and beautiful short films, insanely helpful informational videos about filmmaking, and entire film courses very affordable for everyone. Everything they were doing was very incredible so incredible to the point it leaves the new filmmaker feeling sometimes constant discouragement that they are NOT good enough. In the beginning I found myself always saying, if only my films were as good as Ryan Connelly.

What if we lived in a world were you were enough? You, the young aspiring filmmaker, were invited to a legitimate film set and could experience with you eyes & hands real filmmaking in action. You were invited NOT because of what you can do and what degree you have, but because of who you are and how much you want this. What if we lived in a world were filmmakers with degrees shook your hand in person and said "I was where you were just a few years ago. You should go to film school. I will show you how I applied." I will create this world. It is my dream to live in this world.

Future FilmMakers is the most unique of production companies because none of this is about me and my success. My production company is all about those young aspiring filmmakers out there who feel like they cannot make it in the film industry. I want to help them make it.
How will I do that? What was this one thing missing from all YouTube film channels?

The Current Commitment
Updated May 5th, 2022
If you are asked to join us on a film set and accept the opportunity,
you must state that you have an understanding to all the following below:

TIME COMMITMENT IN PREPRODUCTION: I understand that commitment to this project is not just a commitment of time for the dates July 10th to July 16th. Depending on my role on set, I may be asked to attend several preproduction meetings during the months of May and June. I understand that it is always in the interest of the directors to set up meetings so that they are accommodating the needs of my unique schedule. I understand that in order to avoid scheduling conflict, communication with the directors is key. I understand that the directors never want me to feel overworked and undervalued. I understand that the directors will do everything in their power to make preproduction an enjoyable experience where creative ideas can be shared and explored.

OVERALL MISSION: I understand that Future FilmMakers overall mission is to grant aspiring filmmakers their first ever film experience while creating high quality films. Thus, I will find myself working with a mix of experienced (film school and freelance trained) and less experienced filmmakers. I know my role on this film set and I am dedicated to maintaining a culture that respects ALL no matter their background.

YOUR ROLE: I understand that no matter my background and my role on this film set that I am a very important part of this production. I understand that in the directors' eyes I am very valuable. I understand that the biggest reason behind filling out this commitment form is because I am both needed and wanted in this production.

SAFETY: I understand that the production company Future FilmMakers values your safety above all else and has put certain safeguards (such as the Behavior Contract) in place to ensure that we all walk away from this experience unharmed.

INDIE FILMMAKING: I understand that this is Future FilmMakers second year hosting a big production. As a matter of fact, this is Future FilmMakers biggest production yet. I understand that Future FilmMakers is a production company independent from the "Film Union." I understand that this means the decisions made by the director(s) may not all be industry standard. I understand that the leaders of Future FilmMakers do use standards in the official industry as guidance to guarantee safety. Most non-industry-standard decisions may arise from inexperience with Union Film Sets.

YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS: I understand that my unique needs are very important to both directors Hannah Thomas and Daniel Potter. I understand that it is my responsibility to communicate these needs to Hannah and Daniel a month prior to production in July. (That means before June 10th) These unique needs include but are not limited to allergies, a disability (which may affect your work/behavior on set), religious commitments/values (which may affect work hours and/or sleeping arrangements), etc. I understand that I am not at all obligated to disclose any information that I feel is an infringement to my right to privacy. However, I understand that I should disclose all the information which will guarantee that I am safe and healthy on set.

YOUR CONCERNS: I understand that my concerns are important to both directors Hannah Thomas and Daniel Potter. During production (while filming, setup, & breakdown), I understand that the directors have a whole team to manage and that minor concerns should be communicated up the chain of command. I should share a minor concern with my department head who can help address the issue or communicate the concern to Daniel Potter and then Hannah Thomas. Major concerns such as a medical emergency should be communicated immediately to both Hannah Thomas and Daniel Potter so that the issue can be addressed immediately. When we are off the clock however, I understand that communication is key and Hannah Thomas always prefers that something is communicated to her and Daniel directly so an issue can be resolved.

WORK HOURS: I understand that it is always the director(s) intention to wrap shooting for the day in accordance with the shooting schedule. I understand that the shooting schedule will have in place a proper amount of breaks so that the needs of the cast and crew will be met. I understand that due to unforeseen circumstances we may get off schedule and wrap shooting later than expected for the day. I understand that it is my responsibility to communicate any concerns about work hours and the number breaks with my department head so those concerns are properly delivered to the directors.

CHAPERONE: I understand that due to requirements set forth by Airbnb there will be one adult over the age of 25 staying with us.

PAYMENT & BUDGET: I understand that my payment for work on this film production will be through free housing (for traveling cast & crew) and paid for meals. I understand that Future FilmMakers at this time does not have the budget to pay for everyone's transportation or to provide salaries for the cast and crew. I understand that not all meals will be provided and that I may be asked to help in the crowdfunding campaign by encouraging others to donate. I understand that Future FilmMakers does not expect any member of the cast and crew (who is dedicating long hours of their time to this production and having to cover the cost of their own transportation) to donate hundreds of dollars to the crowdfunding campaign.
